Q: How should I prepare for my first visit ?

A: You should try not to have a large meal within an hour of your appointment as the process of digestion will alter the pattern of your pulse. You should also avoid alcohol, and food or drinks which colour your tongue, such as coffee, immediately prior to treatment. Because the doctor will take your pulses and exam tongue, the different pulses, the overall colour and the coating of the tongue tell the condition of the internal organs.

Q:What will happen on my first visit ?

A:Before your treatment the doctor will give you a confidential consultation. You will be asked about your current symptoms and what treatment you have received so far, your medical history, your diet, sleeping pattern and emotional state. The doctor will check your pulses and exam your tongue. Once enough information has been gathered to determine the likely causes of your problems, the most appropriate treatment plan will be selected for you.

Q:What about the needles used ?

A:It is very fine, pre-sterillised, disposable needle, which is disposed of immediately after use.

Q:Should I tell my doctor ?

A:If you are receiving treatment from your doctor then it is sensible to mention that you plan to have TCM treatment.

Q:Should I continue with my prescribed medication while undergoing a course of TCM treatment ?

A:Yes, at least until you have discussed this with your doctor or the practitioner who prescribed the medication. Many people seek the help because of dissatisfaction with drug treatment, as it does not seem to be working or the side effects are unacceptable.
